PERRY SCHOOL DISTRICT - TREASURER'S CONTRACT RAISES EYEBROWS!

We told you earlier about the large contract the Perry School Board recently gave to their Treasurer, Mr. Galante. The following is a comment sent to us from a Perry resident. We applaud this resident for the eye opening research he has done.

Our only comment is that Perry Schools appear to be gaming the system by comparing themselves with most of these school districts. Educationally they are not in the same league.

The blog is as follows:

"Nine of the twelve districts the Perry administration, and board, chose to be compared with earned the states highest educational honor for the 2008/2009 school year - "Excellent with Distinction."

Following is the current average annual teacher base salary in each of these nine districts: Bay Village $64,463; Beachwood $76,763; Brecksville $73,240; Chagrin Falls $59,455; Olmsted Falls $64,669; Orange $78,625; Rocky River $67,535; Solon $71,866; West Geauga $59,468. MRS. SINES: ALL NUMBERS ARE FROM THE OHIO DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION UNDER TEACHER DATA.

Perry's teachers current annual base salary average is $58,850, therefore:

Perry's teachers average $5,613 less than Bay Village teachers in annual base salary.

Perry's teachers average $17,913 less than Beachwood teachers in annual base salary.

Perry's teachers average $14,390 less than Brecksville teachers in annual base salary.

Perry's teachers average $605 less than Chagrin Falls teachers in annual base salary.

Perry's teachers average $5,819 less than Olmsted Falls teachers in annual base salary.

Perry's teachers average $19,775 less than Orange teachers in annual base salary.

Perry's teachers average $8,685 less than Rocky River teachers in annual base salary.

Perry's teachers average $13,016 less than Solon teachers in annual base salary.

Perry's teachers average $618 less than West Geauga teachers in annual base salary.

IN SUMMARY, PERRY"S TEACHERS AVERAGE $9,604 LESS ON AVERAGE IN ANNUAL BASE SALARY THAN THESE NINE DISTRICTS.

CLOSER TO HOME, THE TWO DISTRICTS IN LAKE COUNTY THAT WERE RATED "EXCELLENT WITH DISTINCTION" BY THE STATE - WILLOUGHBY/EASTLAKE AND MENTOR PAID THEIR TEACHERS $62,583, AND $65,667 RESPECTIVELY IN ANNUAL BASE SALARY. PERRY"S TEACHERS AVERAGED $5,273 LESS THAN THE AVERAGE OF THESE TWO LAKE COUNTY DISTRICTS.

WITH BENEFITS ADDED ON THE NINE AVERAGE IS $92,413 @ 35% BENEFITS FACTOR.
WITH BENEFITS ADDED ON PERRY"S AVERAGE IS $82,390 @ 40% BENEFITS FACTOR.

IF I CORRECTLY UNDERSTAND THE ENORMITY OF MR. GALANTE"S NEW CONTRACT THERE WILL ONLY BE ONE DISTRICT IN THE ENTIRE STATE THAT PAYS THEIR TREASURER/CFO MORE THAN MR. GALANTE - CLEVELAND. WAY TO GO PERRY SCHOOL BOARD.
